ITP made 10 kilometers of bamboo panels used to the construction of new Trento University's library. The library has been designed by Renzo Piano and inaugurated on November 19, 2016.
Panels were made by 3 mm thick bamboo veneer faced poplar plywood.
Some library's figures follow: 7 floors (plus underground car parking), glazing facades and roof, about 340.000 volumes disposed on 10 kilometers of shelves (most of them as open shelves), and more than 430 study station, 6.000 square meters of reading spaces within two building linked each other by a lobby where it’s possible to enjoy a wonderful view on close montains. These figures are main features of new Trento University’s library, designed by Renzo Piano.
The design challenge was to adapt the original convention center project to a friendly and functional place, where students, academics, and citizens are welcome.

Building’s main features are light volumes and extraordinary brightness, thanks to large window and to bright bamboo wooden used to interior furniture. Shelves, stairs, handrails and floors are made by bamboo. It is an environmentally friendly material and it facilitates reading. Thanks to these environmentally friendly choices, the library has achieved energy certification LEED Gold, and it is fireproof and earthquake-proof certified too.
